Reducing light cost, saving energy, protecting environment, and so on  are practical benefits from using LED lights in fishing, helping fishermen to head for the open sea.
Mr. Tran Thanh Ca, an owner of a  fishing vessel in Vung Tau said, by using 12 LED lights  in each 20-day trip, his vessel can decrease oil consumption to operate electricity generator from 1200 liters  to to 400 liters, which means reducing fuel  cost from 25 million VND to 8 million VND.
Besides, these are saving energy lights with  cold lighting,  which does not cause uncomfortable feeling, and therefore improve  working environment. As a result, fishermen can go  on long-day trips  having insignificant effect on their health. According to statistics of aquiculture, oil consumption to generate electricity to attract fish accounts  for over 50 percent of expenditure for a  trip. Energy consumption of traditional lighting technologies  impose a   great burden on fishermen. Meanwhile, advantages given by  LED lights seem to outweigh that of traditional ones.

According to Dr. Le Hai Hung, Institute of Technical Physics  – Ha Noi university of Science and Technology, LED lights have various colors befitting particular use of purpose; high lighting efficiency, ability to operate in low voltage, even under the sea, therefore safety is ensured; ,; and long duration of life to save cost.
Currently, Using LED lights in catching fish  has been grown in popularity in many countries such as Korea, Japan, Russia, Norway, Peru… achieving high efficiency. However, in Viet Nam, using LED lights seems unfamiliar and it has just been introduced to Vietnamese fishermen since Kim Dinh Green Energy Joint Stock Company (FAWOOKIDI) conducted  the pilotproject: using LED lights  to attract fish in offshore fishing activities in some central and southern provinces. After one year using LEDs,  a typical  fishing boat could save  nearly 250 million VND (oil , operating costs …).
Despite high economic efficiency, this model has not been largely used by fishermen because of the complexity in installing lights system, as well as the high price of LED bulbs.
Dr. Nguyen Duc Dung – Director of Applied Plasma Technology Join-Stock Company  (APT) said, APT has  worked with some banks, financial leasing companies on  loaning money to buyers, which draws attention of some organizations. According to statistics of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development,there are about 128,000 offshore fishing vessels in Viet Nam. Therefore, we will actively encourage and create favorable conditions for fishermen to use saving energy LED lights for fishing to help them work harder.
