In two days 25 and 26 August 2016, Green Innovation and Development Center (GreenID) in collaboration with Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (Department of Agriculture) in An Giang province, People’s Committee of Tinh Bien district held a workshop: “Introduction and Planning Implementing Project in Tinh Bien district, An Giang Province” at the hall of People’s Committee of Tinh Bien district.

Activities within the framework of the project: “Intensifying energy access for the poor in the provinces that are not connected to the electricity grid system in Mekong Delta of Vietnam through the application of green and sustainable solutions” with financial support from the Organization of Bread for the World by Green Innovative and Development Centre (GreenID) in collaboration with local partners conducted in Tinh Bien district, An Giang province, period 2016-2018.

The main objective of the workshop was to introduce, share contents and approaches to the projects with local partners, established and agreed on the project plans to deploy at 03 locations in Tinh Bien district during the next three years. At the same time, the workshop also aims to introduce and launch Project Management Unit at local and to establish Green Energy Group (GET) at 03 communal projects.


Attending the seminar were representatives of relevant Department in the province, members of the Board of Management of local projects at three levels of An Giang University, leaders and officers of People’s Committee of Tinh Bien district, and relevant Departments (Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment Division, Department of Economic Infrastructure, Women’s Union, Farmers’ Union, …), representative of community and the citizens of 7 communes that have not connected to the grid in Tinh Biên district such as An Hao, Tan Loi, Vinh Trung, An Phu, An Nong, Nhon Hung and An Cu commune, Green ID, representative of local energy team (LET) of Nguyen Phich commune, U Minh district, Ca Mau province, the enterprises that providing model, news agencies, local station.

Opening the seminar, Ms. Nguy Thi Khanh – Executive Director of GreenID introduced the main contents of the project including main objectives and activities, expected results, and local partners joining the project. The main objective of the project aims to support the poor in Tinh Bien district have access to energy solutions with appropriate costs, contributing to economic growth and sustainable development. The project will implement a bottom-up approach and community ownership. This is a new approach called local energy planning (LEP). The project activities are planned to promote the participation of communities and local governments in developing and implementing the plan, effectively use the resources and contribute to concretize the local programs such as rural electrification, new rural construction, green growth, … The project will support establish and train Green Energy Team at three communes, improve capacity as well as organize seminar activities, communication along with the citizens and local government to build energy plan.

Next, Mr. Le Ngoc Son – Project coordinator of GreenID shared detailed implementation steps to carry out the project, benefits of using sustainable energy and report the survey results at 7 communes in Tinh Bien district from 25-28/03/2016. The results show the need of local people about using electronic, water and energy is very big. At the present project activities will prioritize implement at the three most difficult communes and continue expanding into adjacent areas at later period.
To help community in Tinh Bien better understanding about activities of local energy planning as well as multiple benefits of energy sustainable solutions, representative of LET from Ca Mau province also shares useful experiences related to the process of participating local energy team (LET), building energy planning and mobilizing local people apply the energy sustainable solutions as well as the benefits from its solutions.  It is not only economics profits but also environment improvements, contributing job opportunities for people in the commune. Until now, many models, solutions on the whole commune has implemented installation and received good responses from community such as BIOGA model, electronic model from solar energy, improved wood stoves, composting organic waste bins, LED light, …

During the two-day workshop, the representatives of 7 communes in the area also had lively discussions to specify the needs and wants of people in the region about using energy along with actively building a plan to implement activities that appropriate with specific conditions of each region. At the seminar, participants had a chance to visit and exhibit some devices, energy-saving models to have better understanding the features and uses, benefits of them.

At the end of the seminar, almost all participants expressed their wish to participate in the project as well as believe in the success of the project. With that result, we believe that the project will contribute significantly into the development of social economy in general and enforce accessing sustainable solutions to people in the whole commune which aim to sustainable development.
