Mercy Relief (2012 - 2013)

Project title:  Enhancing coastal community’s resilience to disaster risks and livelihood improvement in Nam Cuong commune, Tien Hai district, Thai Binh Province, Vietnam

Objective, goals of the project

Goals of the project:  To contribute to sustainable community development through (1) enhancing community’s capacity on disaster preparedness and risk reduction, (2) increasing their access to clean and green water and 3) improving community’s livelihood

Objective:

  • To build up the capacity of the communities in disaster responsiveness;
  • To improve communities’ access to clean water utilizing new power generation method;
  • To improve communities’ livelihood.

Activities:

1. Disaster preparedness and Risk reduction (DPRR):

  • Training workshops on community-based DPR
  • Risk mapping
  • Provide necessary equipments for evacuation camp(s)

2. Improve access to clean and safe water:

  • Survey and water quality test
  • Upgrade current water supply station (increase capacity, add  more treatment methods and install new renewable energy pumps )
  • Water and waste water awareness raising:

3. Livelihood improvement:

  • Piloting rice with salt-resistant capacity
  • Training for other farming activities

Project duration: October 2012 to September 2013
