Lauching Project and Setting up a Local Energy Team in DangKang, KrongBong, Daklak

A new LET group of 15 members from villages across the commune, with a special component of 60% of Ede minority groups, has started their journey. There will be many difficulties and challenges but GreenID will be always ready to support for Dang Kang to connect to Cu Pui and other villages in Dak Lak.

Increasing participation and responsibility for handling local energy needs for the community is the motivation of GreenID to implement the Local Energy Planning (LEP) to remote, rural areas, where the local have difficulty in accessing to electricity and water. One of the places we chose for the project is Dang Kang Commune, Krong Bong District, Dak Lak Province.

In 23rd, October, GreenID in collaboration with Dang Kang Commune People's Committee held a workshop lauching the energy project, setting up the Local Energy Team (LET) to directly implement Sustainable Energy models in the commune by local energy planning. The activity is part of the "Promoting sustainable energy solutions for the benefit of ethnic minority communities and disadvantaged groups in Vietnam" project, which was initiated and implemented directly from January, 2018, following up the success in implementing the project in Cu Pui, Krong Bong, Dak Lak.

The launch ceremony was attended by 50 people in Dang Kang commune with Ms. Nguyen Thi Quyen, Ms. Nguyen Thanh Uyen Nhu - Project Officer of GreenID. In particular, the presence of representatives from the commune such as Phan Thanh Cam - Vice chairman of the Commune People's Committee, Mr. Pham Van Hung - Secretary of the Party Committee, Mr. Le Xuan Phuc - Vice chairman of Dang Kang Commune, representatives at the Youth Union, Women's Union, Farmers' Association, village heads. The concern and support of the local authorities in the first days of project makes us really feel happy and full of motivation for the new journey.

Taking place in the form of a village meeting, the launching ceremony helped Dang Kang commune representatives having overview of GreenID, understanding the spirit of the project using sustainable energy models to meet the basic demands for the community. At the same time, people also hear the results of the project in nearby Cu Pui commune and understand the process of local energy planning. Talking, discussing and listening directly, our commune representatives and project staffs have jointly built a roadmap for the next steps.

Information on Local Energy Planning Methods: This is the process in which local people and local government jointly develop a plan to solve issues related to Energy and Environment in the commune with the technical support of experts. Through this process, people have access to information and apply sustainable energy solutions to protect their health and manage water resources well. Participating in the Local Energy Team (LET), members will undergo a series of capacity building activities such as training, joining in workshops, surveying, communicating, organizing the exhibitions… to meet the energy needs of the region.
