THE SOCIALIST REPUBLIC OF VIETNAM Independence - Freedom - Happiness |
No.: 522/VPCP-CN Ref: A news story by the Vietnam Television (VTV) on the recommendation on the maximum reduction of coal imports in the National Energy Development Master Plan |
Hanoi, January 21, 2021 |
To: Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT)
VTV on January 15, 2021 reported the Vietnam Sustainable Energy Alliance (VSEA) recommended minimizing coal imports in the National Energy Development Master Plan for the Period 2021-2030, vision 2050 considering potential risks and hurdles. Coal imports are set in the Draft Master Plan to increase from 49% in 2020 to 54% in 2030 before recording a growth rate of 70% by 2050. This is a wrong target as there are hurdles to coal imports and domestic primary energy sources should be fully exploited towards the goal of Vietnam becoming an energy exporter in the future.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc assigns the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) to examine the reported issue and take into account VSEA’s recommendation in the development and submission for approval of the National Energy Development Master Plan for the Period 2021-2030, vision 2050 and the Power Development Plan VIII (PDP VIII).
The Government Office informs herein for implementation by the MOIT.
