A training workshop on “Saving energy” for students majoring in International Relations, Academy of Journalism and Communication was organized under the auspices of Green Innovation and Development Center (GreenID) on November 18, 2013 in “Sustainable Energy Centre”, Hanoi

The training workshop is under  the framework of the project “ Establish a Sustainable Energy Centre to Stimulate  Community Activities  in Climate Change Mitigation in Vietnam”, which was sponsored by Karuna Foundation.

The  workshop has offered  the students a favorable opportunity to understand more about the “Sustainable Energy Centre”,some of its  main activities, and especially sustainable energy models, which fosters their knowledge and awareness of energy saving.

Vietnam is predicted to witness a dramatic increase in demand for energy, especially for commercial energy  with the growth rate of 8.2-8.8% per year during 2001 and 2020 and 5.8%-6% per year from 2001 to 2050.  However fossil fuel resources in Vietnam are limited, which emphasizes the importance of  saving energy and taking advantage of renewable energy resources such as  small hydropower, wind energy , solar energy , geothermal  energy, biomass, and biogas.

Through lessons given by Mr. Minh Hung Nguyen, a consultant of  Netherlands Development Organization (SNV), the students gained background knowledge about energy and energy saving. The students also had an opportunity to do teamwork exercises in which they contributed many ideas to save energy in their own house  and reducecarbon emissions into the environment.

Furthermore, renewable energy models, programs and projects conducted by GreenID  to promote sustainable energy development in Vietnam and the Mekong region were introduced by Ms Thu Trang Nguyen and Ngoc Son Le, project coordinators of GreenID.

Through this  training workshop, GreenID expect  to contribute to raising  students’ awareness of energy saving and get them involved into our community activities.
