“Vietnam Coalition for Climate Action” Launching Ceremony

On August 21, 2019, and August 23, 2019, the launching ceremony for the “Vietnam Coalition for Climate Action” took place in Hue and Ho Chi Minh city; with more than 150 representatives from businesses, non-governmental & non-profit organisations, financial institutes, consumers, university representatives, research & technical support agencies, representatives of pioneering associations promoting green development in Vietnam. The event was to launch the coalition officially and call for the participation of stakeholders to contribute to the adaptation and response to climate change in Vietnam.

The conference is an opportunity for hundreds of representatives from relevant fields to gather and work together to affirm their determination to act together to adapt and respond to climate change issues. The “Green Initiative for Climate Action” seminar was the highlight of the event as it created a discussion space among members in implementing the Million Green Homes program: promoting renewable energy  and efficient solutions at household level, office buildings, factories, small and medium enterprises, and other green solutions. The seminar was hosted by 05 guests: the representative of ACA, Mr Nithi Nesadurai, the representative from CSOs, included Ms Nguy Thi Khanh - Director of GreenID and Mr Mai Phan Loi - Director of MEC, Ms Nguyen Thanh Huong - Sustainable Finance Specialist - WWF Vietnam, representative from businesses, Mr Phan Dinh Nam - General Director of SolarTech Company.

The “Green Initiative for Climate Action” seminar

During the seminar, we listened to the efforts of Hue City, Ho Chi Minh city - one of the first provinces certified in the Green City Program I love (EHCC), towards an environmental-friendly planet. We also shared the vision of the Million Green Homes program for a prosperous Vietnam, and the urgent needs to join forces to promote the application of solar roof power, energy-saving solutions.

Today, financial institutions have also spoken up, providing information on opportunities to access financial resources to implement the coalition action.

Climate change has become a major challenge for countries, businesses and communities in Vietnam and the world. The Paris agreement has given the world hope that we can fight these problems. However, the current commitments of nations are still not enough to ensure a safer and more prosperous future for all humanity. Limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius is possible - when and only if we act drastically from now on at all levels of government and all parts of society. Each handshake, every voice sharing in the auditorium today is positive feedback to the climate of Vietnam in the future.

Information on Vietnam Coalition for Climate Action: In Vietnam, the Green Innovation and Development Centre (GreenID) and the World Wildlife Fund Vietnam (WWF-Vietnam) co-initiated the formation of the coalition, with the participation of businesses, non-governmental & non-profit organisations, financial institutes, consumers, university representatives, research & technical support agencies, representatives of pioneering associations promoting green development in Vietnam.
